Learning through personal projects is a great way to gain hands-on experience with cutting-edge tools like PBR and Substance Painter. I recently created a game-ready traditional Katana model from scratch, focusing on basic design principles. This model is versatile and can be easily adapted for use in any game engine that supports PBR. Key details about this project include: Modeling was done using 3dsMax 2018. Texturing was handled using Substance Painter, which allowed me to create high-quality 4k textures. The textures are formatted as .tga files and feature two different types of metal-rough and spec-gloss-metal-rough PBR maps. UV mapping was also optimized with unwrapped UVs for easier texture manipulation. This model is available in multiple formats, including Maya, Max, Blender, and FBX.
