As a child growing up in Brussels, vivid memories flooded my mind every time I strolled through Matonge, the African district of our vibrant city. Eye-catching silhouettes marched along the sidewalks, a kaleidoscope of colors that transported me back to the bustling stalls where incredible fabrics made with geometric patterns sparkled like precious gems. Women wore these elaborate textiles as an integral part of themselves, transforming each intricate design into a wearable form of mood, hiding secrets and stories behind every deliberate stroke. I set out to create a chair that embodied simplicity, clarity, and practicality. I began working with pine plywood, embracing the natural beauty of exposed layers and the unique texture that arose from the uneven skin of this organic material, crafting each detail to serve its purpose in harmony with human function.
