The vibrant colors of African fabric dance across a chair, transporting me back to my childhood days in Brussels. In the heart of Matonge, the city's African district, I recall multicolored silhouettes strolling through the streets, their clothing a mesmerizing display of geometric patterns that seemed to hold secrets and stories. Women adorned themselves with these fabrics as if they were precious jewelry, each intricate design weaving a tale of mood and emotion. As an artist, when I set out to create a chair, I sought simplicity, clarity, and functionality. The pine plywood I chose has exposed layers and a textured skin that adds a touch of rugged charm. The result is a piece that exudes a sense of raw, unbridled energy, as if the very essence of the African continent had been distilled into its design. This chair is more than just a piece of furniture – it's an homage to the rich cultural heritage of Africa, where every pattern and color tells a story. Each fabric selection was made with care, carefully balancing vibrant hues with subtle textures to create a visual feast that invites you to explore its depths.
