The physics final project involved creating a successful and functioning 3D printed car. We had to design and build a working car while adhering to strict requirements and constraints that dictated where components such as a fan, wheels, and rod could be fitted on the car. Although this was a significant portion of the project, our primary objective was to test the car, gather data, and analyze information to determine its overall efficiency. By collecting sufficient data from the test run and other tests, we can calculate the initial energy supplied and the final kinetic energy of the car. In doing so, we not only see how much of the energy supplied is converted to the car's kinetic energy but also identify factors that contribute to energy loss. This enables us to evaluate the efficiency of the car, which is the ultimate goal of the project. My product is a red 3D printed car inspired by Lightning McQueen from the movie "Cars." The design of the car serves as a personal touch, showcasing creativity and adding an element of fun to the project. While the design is an attractive feature, its primary function is to operate properly and move along the track, allowing us to collect data that determines the efficiency of the car. The car must accommodate all components while functioning simultaneously. The car operates when a fan connected to it begins running, causing the wheels to spin. As the car moves over a track using near-frictionless wheels, we can collect data such as time by using a pole attached to the back and determine the efficiency of the car. The pole passes through two sensors, one at the start and one at the end, recording the time taken for the car to travel from one end to the other. By gathering extensive information, we can calculate the total energy lost from start to finish and identify how much of the supplied energy is converted to the kinetic energy of the car.
