In Tulln an der Donau, Lower Austria, a stunning late Romanesque ossuary stands tall, built between 1240 and 1250 at the behest of Friedrich II, the last Duke of the Babenbergs. Vast paintings adorn its walls, depicting Jesus as the ultimate world ruler, archangel Michael triumphantly slaying dragons, and holy figures rendered in authentic medieval style.
