Charles Buls or Karel Buls was born on October 13, 1837. He lived for seventy-six years and eight months before passing away on July 13, 1914. This Belgian politician served as the mayor of Brussels. Charles François Gommaire Buls was his full name. His father was a goldsmith from Mechelen, and he was born in Brussels. Charles received an artistic education. He spent one year studying fine arts in Paris and nine months in Italy. He learned English, German, and Latin. As a goldsmith, Charles followed in his father's footsteps. In 1862, he became a Freemason. The organization he joined was "Les vrais amis". Two years later, in 1871, he joined "La libre pensée". At the same time, he was also a member of two Flemish organizations, "de Veldbloem" and "Vlamingen vooruit". These groups were part of the Flemish movement. Together with his brother-in-law Leo Van der Kindere, Charles became a flamingant. This means that both brothers-in-law supported the Flemish people. The sculpture in front of us was created by Belgian sculptor Henri Lenaerts. This bronze statue is an important piece of art. This object belongs to "Scan The World".
