The Kaplane turbine can be classified into two main categories: double regulated and single regulated types. A Kaplane turbine with adjustable runner blades and guide vanes is considered a double regulated type, whereas one with only adjustable runner blades falls under the single regulated category. Double regulated Kaplane turbines are capable of operating within a wide range of discharge levels, from 15% to 100% of their maximum design capacity. In contrast, single regulated turbines have a more limited operating range, functioning between 30% and 100% of their maximum design discharge.
