Real Scale Oriental Instrument, designed by me! A stringed musical instrument played solo or as part of an ensemble in the Middle East, Maghreb, West Africa, Central Asia, and southeastern Europe. The name originates from Arabic, specifically the word qanun, meaning "rule," "law," or "norm." This term is borrowed from ancient Greek and Latin, where it was known as κανών (kanon), a musical instrument. Traditional and classical music played on the qanun are based on Maqamat or Makamlar. Historians believe the qanun originated in Ancient Greece, possibly dating back to Minoan or Mycenaean times between 3000BC and 1600BC. This unique instrument boasts a large zither with a thin trapezoidal soundboard, renowned for its captivating melodramatic sound.
