While browsing through http://grabcad.com/challenges/dispensing-cap-mechanism, I discovered protolabs.com - a valuable resource for injection molding information and rapid prototyping of injected or machined parts. They even sent me freebies, including their "Protogami" (a Proto Labs Kaleidocycle) showcasing six materials in four finishes. My kids adore it, and it's a fun spinner toy! To get your hands on one, visit www.protomold.com. Intrigued by this design? I made my 3D-printable version that can't be disassembled in a single print, with enough clearance for smooth operation. The hinges could be modified to allow separate printing and assembly of six identical parts. The SW2012 files contain mates demonstrating its movement, but I'm yet to master animating it.
