Kala research area (2019 season)

The area surrounding annotation 3 is one of the key regions focused on in the 2019 season, as depicted in this model. You can clearly see its location here. This section boasts remnants of some old houses from Nivica village, which was ravaged and abandoned back in 1913. We carefully excavated a small amount of topsoil around the walls to gauge the possible extent of these ancient structures. Future plans may involve digging a trench in this area to uncover archaeological evidence from earlier periods of settlement in Nivica. The layout appears to consist of two buildings, possibly with a central courtyard separating them. Local community stories reveal that the dwellings were incredibly tightly packed together. Some were so close that neighbors could literally reach out and hold hands through their windows! Please note that this is a low-resolution representation of the models used by the project for archaeological research. Higher-quality versions are available upon request.
