kajakens Solidoodle 3 enclosure
thingiverse
To maintain a bed temperature of 110°C for my new Solidoodle 3, I constructed an enclosure using locally sourced acrylic glass sheets from Biltema. The enclosure consists of one 4 mm thick, 400x600 mm sheet for the top and three 2 mm thick, 300x300 mm sheets for the sides. Neodymium magnets (10x10x2 mm) were used to hold the side panels in place by pressing them into pre-made pockets. An update was made using round 10 mm magnets (1.8 mm thick), sourced from UnitedHobby, for a magnetic holder added to the acrylic glass. An instruction on the required printed parts is also available: four lid_corner.stl pieces, one nob_door.stl piece, two hinge_door_1.stl pieces, two hinge_door_2.stl pieces, six hinge_door_3.stl pieces for the left and right sides, and one hinge_door_3_mod.stl piece for the top side of the front door. The hinge_door_3.stl uses 10x10x1.75 mm magnets, while the hinge_door_3_mod.stl requires round 10 mm magnets with a thickness of 1.5 mm. The acrylic plastic sheets needed are three 300x300x2 mm thick sheets for the sides and one 4 mm thick, 400x600 mm sheet for the top. The lid top and sides were cut from the 4 mm sheet, with dimensions matching the Solidoodle 3's size. The remaining sheet was used to create the lid sides, ensuring that the 3D printed corner pieces reached the corners of the SD3 cube. M3 Hex screws and lock nuts were used to assemble the enclosure, while UHU por glue secured the hinge_door_1.stl, hinge_door_2.stl, and hinge_door_3.stl parts to the 2 mm acrylic sheets. Rubber lining was added to the sides and door for a tight fit and to prevent heat loss. Future additions include a filament guide, filament spool holder on the lid, and a 40 W light bulb in the enclosure's bottom to achieve the desired 110°C bed temperature. ABS plastic with a filament of 1.75 mm is recommended for use at extruder temperatures of 195°C and bed temperatures between 105-110°C.
