K8400 VERTEX Wire Covers (Rev. 2)
thingiverse
UPDATE 16-Sep-2017 After acquiring the original drawings of Vertex K8400, I discovered that several things published here featured mounting holes that were not perfectly aligned with the holes on the printer's side and bottom panels. To correct this, new STL files have been posted today. If you downloaded previous versions and haven't printed them yet, please get the latest ones. This is the second edition of my wire covers, available at http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1504532. New covers are sleeker, contain shorter and simpler components than in the original design, and look more modern. Thanks to Hae9wuum for suggesting that I go without nuts. This suggestion was a major factor in my decision to redesign the covers. I rerouted the wires going to the Z-sensor, Y-motor, and left extruder. They now pass through the center hole of the bottom panel. I also created an optional piece to cover these wires. Use M3x8mm or x10mm screws to mount the covers. You will need 30 screws or 26 if you don't intend to install bottom_under.stl. Print Settings Printer: VERTEX K8400 Resolution: 0.2mm Infill: 100% Notes: I used a 100% infill setting to ensure that areas around the screws are strong. However, this setting caused Repetier Host to crash. It appears to be an application bug. To work around it, I saved .gcode files and then printed them from the SD-card. Using lower infill percentages should be safe. All things were printed with touch-bed support. The bottom-center.stl thing was printed with Everywhere support. Post-Printing Before mounting the covers, cut the threads by screwing in M3 screws into each hole. Pushing all the wires under the covers requires patience and effort. Before tightening the screws, make sure that no wires are stuck under the edges of the covers. If you're installing bottom_under.stl thing, ensure that the right-front screw doesn't touch the main board. An M3x8mm screw is recommended for this location.
