I wanted the filament to share the same Cabin space as the printer, to maintain the same temperature and humidity since I found that it improves printing with certain materials. Also, it helps the filament move much better than from behind the printer. I do plan on replacing the external Filament sensor with the one on the extruder, and that will make this even better and cleaner. You will need 1 rod of some sort to hold the spool, and the hole that holds the rod, needs to be modified based on the rod you have available.(I had an aluminum rod lying around)The corners print better on the K1 Max, on one of their sides.Regular support (Not Tree) works better on the K1 Max.Very easy to remove the supports.I used a small screwdriver along the grooves to get the support off.The connectors print well standing up, and I added “mouse ears” to ensure they don't start warping, which can be easily snipped off with scissors.Highly recommend PETG to ensure the chamber can withstand high temperatures of up to 65C.to prevent warping, please DO NOT use any fan for most of the print, and use ONLY Model fan when doing supports and bridges.I printed with Nozzle = 270C, and Bed = 70C.With PETG I tend to reduce acceleration for supports, top and bottom all the way down to only 500mms^2, and I keep the speed as high as 250mms and everything prints perfectly. To build the box as shown, you will need:The Rod long enough to span from corner to corner of the printer2 Corners with holes for the rod2 Corners without holes8 connectors which also has a groove to allow the foam board cutouts to squeeze inYou want to put 2 connectors between each pair of corners that will make the structure very strong, and also hold the foam boardsThe connectors can also easily slide out, for easy access to the printer when required2 Roll holders - more if you want to store more rolls in there. It should be possible to store 4 rolls in there, just like the Bambu Lab AMS (will have to figure out the material change part later… LOL).Dollar store foam board works great!Just cut them into the right size to fit between the connectors and cornersAnd then I just screwed the filament sensor to 1 extra connector (BUT I do intend on replacing that with the Extruder sensor Mod)Oh, and metal clips work great to keep the roll holders in place at any part of the rod Video:
