K'nex Clock gears
thingiverse
Humans design 16 pitch gears that perfectly mesh with standard K'nex gears. I created these custom gears to build a precise clock that demands specific ratios. To use them, pair identical gears whose combined teeth total 48 on the smallest center-to-center gear setup (two connectors with a green/black rod). For example, to achieve a 1:2 gear ratio, combine a 16-tooth gear with a 32-tooth gear. Alternatively, make a 12/36 gear combination for a 1:3 ratio or an 8/40 gear pair for a 1:5 ratio. With these custom ratios, you can easily achieve the required 1:60 gear down to build a clock. I also designed a 35-tooth gear by exploiting a little trick; pair it with a standard blue gear, 14-teeth to get a 14/35 ratio equivalent to 1:2.5 or 2:5. Using this ratio with an 8-paddle escapement gear yields 8 x 2.5 x 3 = 60 seconds per revolution of the second hand.
