Just another ... Happy Face

Just another ... Happy Face

After my eldest daughter's request, I printed a Happy face using green ABS filament. It took eight tries to get it right. The main challenge was that the behavior of the green ABS differed significantly from natural ABS. In Skeinforge, I set the layer thickness to 0.30mm with a feed rate of 32mm/s and extrusion PWM at 245. However, there was too much plastic extruded, resulting in a rough finish. For my next attempt, I plan to increase the feed speed to 36mm/s and reduce the plastruder PWM to 240. I followed the recommended Skeinforge settings from the Makerbot wiki page for this print. If anyone tries these settings or finds better combinations, please share your results. In a June 25th update, increasing the feed rate to 36mm/s and reducing plastruder speed to 240PWM worked well, as seen in the new Red Happy face image after three failed attempts to get the raft to stick.
