Juno, Kastor & Pollix - Maz And Attero Open Source Core XY 3D Printer
thingiverse
About four years ago, we downloaded our first open source printer design to build our second printer, which ultimately led us out of poverty with our current 3D printing business. We started with a kit that fell apart within two weeks, but desperation drove us to make something out of 3D printing. The person who provided the plans for their printer changed our lives significantly, so I'm paying it forward for the next person in poverty like we were and have ample time to build something life-changing. This printer design is a work in progress, and I hope to keep updating with better organization so whoever wants to build a Juno, Pollix, or Kastor can do so successfully. I also plan to release the STEP and Fusion 360 files in the future once I feel I've made sufficient changes. The design was inspired by staying low budget, fully accessible, my partner Attero's spectra line Core XY printer he built a couple years ago, examining various other printers, and making these printers the way I wanted them to be. Although there might be flaws or things that don't make sense to average printer users, I'm not a licensed engineer but someone who likes to try making things work. The files with KP, Pollix, or Kastor in their name are intended for use with those particular designs. For the most part, all the printed parts are mostly the same, except that Pollix and Juno both use 10mm for the Z drive while Kastor uses 8mm. This allows you to interchange them as you see fit. Should I post all three designs separately? They're mostly the same like I said, so I didn't want to take up too much space on the internet. However, it would be easier for users to find the specific design they need if they were posted individually. I provided as many pictures as I could of the assembled setup. As I get farther along, I hope to create an assembly video and any other instructions needed. All three designs are run on a 32-bit system. Juno is run with a ReArm+Arduino setup, while Kastor and Pollix use 32-bit Azteeg X5 Minis. The three different builds are assembled using both 30x30 and 20x20 extrusions. The reason for this was that the 30x30 extrusions were donated to us. Any future builds would be intended with all 20x20 extrusions, requiring a few of the 3D printer part files to be edited accordingly. I plan on making another version using only 20x20 extrusions once I finish building Kastor and Allanon. There is a rough draft of the BoM included in this post. I need to review it again since I made so many changes over the last few months. More to come in the future!
