Jumbo 2.1mm Power Connector

Jumbo 2.1mm Power Connector

When designing 2.1mm power connectors, I always struggle to fit the cable into the plastic cover, even when I remember to thread it onto the cable before reaching for the soldering iron. This small case is designed to fit over a 2.1mm power connector and accommodate a large cable - in this example, the cable measures 4x8mm overall. We've attached the cable to the tags on the connector with solder and applied some insulating tape. To make this part, you'll need a 2.1mm power connector and two short 3mm self-tapping screws (mine happen to be 3x13mm). The screw-on plastic cover that comes with the connector is not required. Once the part has been printed, clean up any printing artifacts like blobbing or stringing from the edges. Make sure the lid fits snugly onto the case and "clips" on securely, even without the screws. Drill out the two holes in the lid and case using a 2mm drill bit. After soldering the cable to the back of the connector, place the cable and connector into the case. Clip on the lid and screw in the two screws, and you're done! UPDATE November 2018: I've uploaded the design as two separate files, and made some minor adjustments to the source file and STLs so that Cura no longer highlights them in red.
