Julia Vase: Stratus
myminifactory
I've been fascinated by Virtox's Julia Vase series on Thingiverse for a long time. Since he never shared his workflow, I decided to reverse-engineer my own version. Reconstructing a non-linear perturbation of a Julia set through voxel stacking turned out to be surprisingly straightforward. I posted a tutorial video so others can explore these incredible forms. If you try it, please share your creations and any challenges or improvements you make to the technique. The provided STL is solid. To print it as a hollow vase, simply slice it without a top or infill. This approach usually yields better results than a built-in wall thickness. We discussed this project on the 3D Printing Today podcast, available on iTunes, Stitcher radio, or directly from our source at http://threedprintingtoday.libsyn.com/.
