Julia Vase:Cumulus

Julia Vase:Cumulus

I'm absolutely thrilled with Virtox's Julia Vase series on Thingiverse. He never shared his workflow, so I decided to reverse engineer my own version. After all, how challenging could it be to stack voxels around a non-linear perturbation of a Julia set? It turns out that this process is surprisingly straightforward, and I even posted a video for everyone to explore these incredible forms. If you give it a try, please share your results and let me know about any problems you encounter or improvements you make to the technique. The STL file is solid. To print it as a hollow vase, simply slice off the top without infill. This approach usually works better than relying on a baked-in wall thickness. We discussed this topic on the 3D Printing Today podcast, which is available on iTunes, Stitcher radio, or directly from the source at http://threedprintingtoday.libsyn.com/.
