Jules Mousseron was born in Denain, a town known as the "Flat coron," in a family of miners; he started working at the mine himself at the age of twelve years and one day (January 1 is a public holiday) as a trammer. In 1886, Jules met Adelaide Blottiaux, who would eventually become his wife, and began writing poetry for her first in French. However, it was while writing texts in rouchi on the advice of Julien Renard that he started to gain some success by presenting them at local shows. He published his first collection, "Flowers Below," in 1897.
