Jug Fragments, Caerlaverock Castle
sketchfab
Archaeologists uncovered this intricate jug during excavations of the moat at Caerlaverock Castle between 1955 and 1966. The jug features a bridge-spout, one main handle, and two smaller side handles for easy lifting and pouring. Applied strips, scales, and pellets adorn its surface, accompanied by a comb decoration that once shone with a honey and light green glaze. Stamped roundels, likely imitating coins, add to the jug's ornate design. Experts believe it dates back to around 1300 AD.
