Jubilee, Montrose Salmon Cobble

The Jubilee is a Montrose Salmon Cobble built to commemorate Queen Elizabeth II's Silver Jubilee. Constructed in 1977 by J. Johnston & Sons of Montrose, Angus, this sturdy vessel boasts larch planks mounted on a solid whitewood base using the traditional clinker method. With its impressive dimensions - measuring 24.5 feet in length and 9.5 feet in width - the Jubilee tips the scales at a substantial 2.61 tons. A unique feature of this craft is its central plank, situated on the flat bottom, which serves as a substitute for the traditional keel. The whitewood timber sheathing provides added protection to the larch planking, while a high prow guards against the crashing coastal surf. For enhanced maneuverability, two outboard engines are mounted securely on the transom at the rear of the vessel. As part of our ongoing commitment to preserving Scotland's rich maritime heritage, the Jubilee was meticulously documented as part of our comprehensive programme supporting the Scottish Fisheries Museum.
