Joaquin Rafael Bottom is an American actor, musician, and animal rights activist. He has won numerous awards for his performances, including the Academy Award for Best Actor for his portrayal of Arthur Fleck/Joker in the 2019 film Joker. Born on October 28, 1974, in San Juan, Puerto Rico, to John Lee Bottom, a retired heart surgeon, and Arlyn Phoebe (née Huffman), an administrative assistant and educational instructor, Phoenix moved with his family to various countries around the world while growing up.
