The customization process involved setting pattern radius to 12, pattern overlap to 20, pattern rotation to 0, pattern shape to 6, and message as "JOHN". Additionally, line thickness was set to 4, build plate selector was disabled (value of 0), pattern toggle was set to 0, and the font used for the message was 'Orbitron' (file write/orbitron.dxf). The message was toggled on (message_toggle=1) to be displayed in the final design.
