John Hammond's Cane from Jurassic Park
thingiverse
This is John Hammond's iconic amber and bone cane from the blockbuster movie Jurassic Park. The "V2" designation on each file name is a nod to an earlier, less polished version that didn't quite meet my standards. YouTube personalities Peter Brown and pocket83 collaborated on a series of videos showcasing how to craft this very cane, and I highly recommend watching them before proceeding - not just for the technical guidance, but also because their content is incredibly entertaining. Since I lacked access to a lathe, I opted to utilize 3D-printed components in place of traditional wooden body parts. To replicate the amber topper, you can use a plastic egg and some polyester resin, following my lead. Beyond that, simply connect the printed parts with a length of 3/8" all-thread or a dowel rod, depending on whether you're aiming for a functional cane or a display prop. To ensure a smooth build process, I recommend printing the components at 3-5% larger than intended to account for shrinkage during the printing process.
