John Brown's Pike (1:18 scale)
thingiverse
Happy 4th of July from Zanzas Toys! This year, we're celebrating the courageous abolitionist John Brown by recreating the pikes he made for his raid on Harper's Ferry. What John Brown said about himself: "I have only a short time to live, only one death to die, and I'll die fighting for this cause. There will be no peace in this land until slavery is done for." – John Brown, Kansas Territory, 1856. "Would I have interfered on behalf of the rich, the powerful, the intelligent, or in behalf of their friends?... Every man in this court would have deemed it worthy of reward rather than punishment." – John Brown, speaking on November 2, 1859 during his sentencing. "If it's necessary that I should forfeit my life for the furtherance of justice and mix my blood with the blood of millions whose rights are disregarded by wicked enactments... so let it be done." – John Brown, speaking on November 2, 1859 during his sentencing. John Brown would soon face execution. "This is a beautiful country." – Spoken by John Brown while seated on his coffin as he rode to his execution on the gallows. What others said about him: "John Brown's zeal in the cause of freedom was infinitely superior to mine. Mine was like a small light; his was like a burning sun. I could live for the slave; John Brown could die for him." – Frederick Douglass "The murder of John Brown would be an uncorrectable sin, creating a latent fissure that would dislocate the Union in the long run. His agony might consolidate slavery in Virginia, but it would shake American democracy to its core. You save your shame, but you kill your glory." – Victor Hugo in an open letter Actes et paroles "He did more in dying than 100 men could do in living." – Harriet Tubman
