John Berkley Space Ship

John Berkley Space Ship

My kids can't get enough of space ships, and I love making them fun toys to enjoy. I'm always on the lookout for models that are quick to print and sturdy enough for rough play. This one takes a bit longer than usual, clocking in at 2 hours, but it's incredibly durable even at this resolution. One artist who's had a major impact on my space ship designs is John Berkley. If you want to see where I get my inspiration from, just Google him - his work is truly stunning. This particular model is a tribute to Berkley's cover art for the space encyclopedia "Our Universe". His spaceships have a unique blend of hard and smooth features that make them look incredibly sleek and high-tech. I spent many hours working on this design (most of which was spent scrapping early versions because they looked too much like bird heads). I used Blender to create it, and it's been optimized for the level of detail you'll see in the STL file. If you want to print it larger, you won't gain any more detail - but if you try to print it smaller, you risk breaking the model, especially at the "bridge" that connects the main body of the ship.
