Joey Joebags Gen 3 Mini replacement shell
thingiverse
I redesigned the case for my Joey Joebags Gen 3 Mini from BennVenn. Since mine was already disassembled and damaged, I decided to create a new one that's significantly lower profile than the original 3D printed case. As you can see in the images, compare this blue case to the white/clear original. Note that those comparison images have an incorrect cutout for the USB - it was later corrected due to print alignment issues. To install this case, you need to remove all header pins from the joey and desolder the two buttons on the maple mini. These buttons are redundant in normal functionality, so there's no harm done by removing them. The bottom casing snaps on perfectly and holds its place, while the top casing is held down with small squares of 3M VHB double-sided tape. Alternatively, you can use hot glue for a more secure hold. This case will only fit the Gen 3 Mini, not the Gen 4 Jr or any full-size Gen 3 units. It also won't work with other aftermarket units. Edit: I've added a new low-profile option for the bottom case (the top case is as low profile as it can get). You may need to trim the pins on the bottom for this version, but it should now fit inside a GB cart shell. I'm currently printing one and will update with pictures. Edit: I finished printing the low-pro shell, and it does fit after fully trimming the header pins. The reader now fits inside a Game Boy cart protector, achieving what I set out to do. However, the regular bottom feels more solid but makes the reader thicker. Check the last few pics with transparent prints for a clearer understanding of this trade-off.
