Joel's Filament Spool Holder
myminifactory
This design is specifically tailored for Joel Telling's contest to create a spool holder that perfectly complements his filament racks. Two distinct versions of this spool holder are proposed: V1, a streamlined version designed to clip onto wood planks, ensures the filament remains perpendicular to the shelf, thereby preventing it from twisting in its path into the printer below. V2 is a more intricate design, comprising several pieces; while its body resembles that of V1, this version allows the spindle part to snap seamlessly into place on the arm. The reasoning behind this approach lies in the need to achieve optimal strength and printability on the arm, which can be accomplished by printing it flat on the build plate. However, if this were the case, the layer lines would align perpendicular to the stress from the spool's weight, posing a risk of delamination. By having V2 comprise two pieces, you can still print the arm flat on the build plate while also printing the spindle flat on its side, thereby achieving strength along that plane as well. I hope Joel finds this design satisfactory! Additionally, I am currently in the process of returning my printer to its manufacturer, which renders me incapable of actually printing this design for him at present.
