Steven Hunter was commissioned by Barking and Dagenham Council to create a bronze statue of World War I hero, Job Drain VC. The unveiling took place before the local MP and Mayor on Armistice Day in 2009. Job Henry Charles Drain lived his entire life in Barking and earned the Victoria Cross for exceptional bravery during World War I at just 18 years old. Fewer than 1500 VCs have been awarded ever, but Drain received his after volunteering to rescue a vital gun from the enemy position, even though it was 100 yards away. This object is part of "Scan The World". Scan the World is a non-profit initiative by MyMiniFactory that's creating a digital archive of fully printable sculptures and artworks from around the globe for public access. Scan the World is an open-source community project where anyone can contribute. If you have interesting items to share, email stw@myminifactory.com to learn how to get involved.
