Jigsaw Number Pieces, Puzzle, Sequences, Math Patterns

"God made the integers; all the rest is the work of Man." (Leopold Kronecker) Kids love jigsaw puzzles, especially when the big picture unfolds! Numbers work in a similar way. When arranged in meaningful patterns, number sequences are fun to play with. For instance, what's the sum of all integers between 0 and 9? So I created some jigsaw number pieces and corresponding operators. Please share whatever is suitable for your audience. Each piece measures 25mm x 25mm x 5mm. Multiple copies can be printed for open explorations. Don't forget to teach kids how to use parentheses or other methods to avoid run-on number sentences like 3+2=5+4=9, which doesn't make sense as a whole. At least, kids should know that such run-on use of "=" should be read piece by piece in a number game and is unacceptable in math. #### Notes 1. To highlight the numbers, use a permanent marker to draw them after printing. Alternatively, you can change the filament towards the end (say, 5%) and print the numbers in a different color. Twist each piece slightly to separate them after printing. Increase the layer thickness for tighter connections; decrease it for looser ones.
