I'm a final student at Universiti Teknikal Malaysia Melaka (UTeM), and I'm taking on the challenge of creating a tool gauge for inspecting spur gear processes in collaboration with Crescent Gear Solution company. Our goal is to overcome the problem that occurs when the assembly team tries to insert parallel keys into keyway slots, which often gets stuck. The quality team then has to recheck the measurements and send them back to production for repairs, causing unnecessary issues, wasted time, and extra costs. To address this issue, I'm working on a project to develop a tool gauge that can measure spur gears before they're sent to the assembly team, eliminating the need for double-checking and subsequent repairs. The design inspiration for this project comes from tool gauges used to measure cylinder engines using telescopic bores. However, creating a jig support that holds the telescopic bore has proven to be a significant challenge. My next step is to create a single-piece measurement tool gauge that can simplify the process further. I'm using an Anet A8 Plus 3D Printer with 1.75mm PLA material and 100% infill density to bring this project to life. I hope you find my design idea or inspiration useful in your own projects.
