JG AURORA Z-603S - Y STEPPER COOLING This mod is recommended if you decided to "close" your Z-603S, but IT IS NOT a must. The Y stepper is not as exposed to high temperatures as the X stepper: it is fixed to a metal bracket which contributes effectively to dissipate heat through the printer's frame. After around 60 min printing time, the Y stepper temperature stabilises. On long tracks, where the printer runs undisturbed and is not exposed to continuous direction changes, the temperature reaches 65 - 66ºC. On tracks where the printer changes direction in very short intervals (e.g. wall fillings ---> typical "machine gun" sound), the temperature climbs a bit. In my case, the Y stepper remained stable between 67 & 68ºC. Anyway, there is three things you can do to lower the temperature: 1.- Add a dedicated fan 2.- In addition to this fan, a heatsink can be attached to the stepper 3.- If you are a purist and you want to leave no stone unturned, you can apply thermal paste to the contact surfaces between stepper & bracket and bracket & frame … If you are used to tweak your PC or deal with power electronics, you know what to do. With only a fan, the temperature drops to 53ºC When using the the fixing points shown in the picture, you need to change the original screws by 2 x M3 (20 mm long). In fact these two screws fix a guide to the frame that keeps the stepper aligned with the upper 8 mm shaft when tightening the belt (S2M_192mm). I wouldn't remove this plate. Mount the fan support on top of this guide. Print both STLs, sand a little bit and glue (ABS glues well with acetone). Sand again, and refit the holes with a 3 mm bit. - - - Needed stuff: 4 x M3 screws - 20 mm long (fan to fan-plate & fan support to frame) 2 x M3 screws - 16 mm long (fan to fan-plate) 6 x Washers 6 x M3 locking nuts 1 x Fan 40x40x10 - 24V (to be connected directly to the power source) - - - IMPORTANT I know you know, but I have to say: when connecting the fan to your power supply, make sure you unplugged your printer from the mains!! You don't want to get an electric shock! Enjoy. O. - - - JG AURORA Z-603S JGAURORA Z-603S JG AURORA Z603S JGAURORA Z603S
