Object ID: 2003.018.001 The Florida Holocaust Museum's permanent collection proudly features a Jewish National Fund pushke donated by Walter and Edie Loebenberg. This pushke, a receptacle for collecting money in charity, originates from the Boernplatz Synagogue in Frankfurt where Walter Loebenberg was Bar Mitzvahed. On November 9-10, 1938, anti-Jewish pogroms, known as Kristallnacht, ravaged German and Austrian communities, destroying the Boernplatz Synagogue in the process. Following Kristallnacht, the Loebenberg family escaped Nazi Germany and boarded a ship bound for Cuba before eventually settling in Chicago.
