Human: jet engines, also known as gas turbines, operate on a similar principle. They draw in air at the front with a massive fan. A high-speed compressor boosts the air pressure using numerous blades attached to a central shaft. As these spinning blades compress or squeeze the air, it's then mixed with fuel and ignited by an electric spark. The burning gases expand rapidly and blast out through the engine's nozzle, located at its rear. This rapid gas expulsion propels the engine and aircraft forward as jets of hot gas shoot backward. Meanwhile, the compressed air, on its way to the nozzle, passes through a secondary set of blades called the turbine, which is also attached to the same shaft that powers the compressor.
