Jet Engine, 3-Spool
thingiverse
For the latest jet engine for passenger planes, the bypass ratio is getting bigger and bigger to improve performance. To achieve this goal, a 3-spool system was developed. A 3D model was created to explain how this system works. Here are the key points of the design: 1. For each spool's rotation, two methods were prepared: ball bearings and dummy bearings. 2. All stator vanes were omitted to prevent them from rubbing against the blades. Each rotor was designed with support so it can be printed as one piece. 3. The blade angle was set in the same direction as the spool's rotational direction (viewed from the rear). - HP Spool: Clockwise - IP Spool: Counter-clockwise - LP Spool: Counter-clockwise 4. In addition, some parts that are difficult to print without support were prepared with STL files containing support. The last two digits of the file name identify it as "ws". To make it easier to understand the contents and assembly order, a parts breakdown list was created. Downloadable files include: - STL Files - Images: Parts Breakdown for Assembly Aid - Excel File: Parts List Purchase Part Information: -Bearings (Can be used in place of Dummy BRGs, see parts list) DDL-1370ZZ (7 x 13 x 4) - 2ea - For IP-Spool 689ZZ (9 x 17 x 5) - 2ea - For HP-Spool 6900ZZ (10 x 22 x 6) - 2ea - For LP-Spool -Aluminum Tubes - See Parts List -Screws Micro screws M1.4x3L - Approx. 50 ea - Direct screw-in to 1 mm dia hole (No nut) Screws M2 x 6L - 6 ea, see parts list Assembly Points: - Standard skills such as drilling, tapping, filing, tightening, painting and gluing are required. - Patience is also necessary. Total Net Print Time: Approximately 42 hours - Estimated for PLA, 0.4mm nozzle, 0.2mm layer height, 40% infill and no raft or support Note: Parameters may be adjusted during actual printing.
