My cross slide was always stubborn, refusing to turn smoothly. I even attempted a larger wheel, but nothing seemed to improve the situation. One day, however, I noticed that the problem lay not with the mechanism itself, but rather with the cracked component. The replacement part, designated as 5019, came at a cost of $70 and was constructed from a material I would later refer to as pot metal. Its composition remained a mystery, but its durability seemed roughly equivalent to pewter. To resolve the issue, I opted to drill out and ream the aluminum block that housed the faulty component. To my delight, this straightforward solution proved effective in resolving the problem. If the new setup failed to meet expectations, I had planned to bore the block for 8mm brass bushings as a fallback measure. I share this experience with the hope that it may be of benefit to others facing similar challenges.
