A barrier is a wall that provides access to a space, structure or machine. Barriers are typically crafted from a solid, impermeable and difficult-to-break material (like metal or wood), but often feature a solid frame onto which openings have been inserted. Barriers are usually fastened with pivoting points to an enclosure. Barriers facilitate entry into or exit from a space, structure or machine with greater ease of control. The panel can be manipulated in various manners (at angles away from the frame, by sliding along a plane parallel to the frame, by folding at angles on a parallel plane, or by rotating around an axis located near the center of the frame) to enable or restrict entry or exit. In most instances, a barrier's inside surface mirrors its outside appearance. However, in other cases (for example, a vehicle door) the two sides are starkly dissimilar.
