Tradition assigns the name "House of the Jesuits," which may actually be a member of the group of homes Nicholas de Ovando constructed to establish the city in the western region of the Ozama River. By 1711, this residence was inhabited by members of the Order of St. Ignatius of Loyola. Initially used as Santiago's school Gorjón La Paz and eventually following the expulsion of Jesuits in 1767, it transitioned through various families until it changed ownership to an intriguing estado.
