Thomas Brock 1847-1922 Jereiah James Coman 1898 Jeremiah James Colman (1830-1898) was a Norwich industrialist, politician and philanthropist. He led the way as leading partner in J&J Colman, flour millers and manufacturers of mustard, pioneering social welfare by opening schools for his employees' children and introducing canteens, welfare officers and nurses to look after their wellbeing. As a liberal MP for Norwich, he served four decades, holding positions such as Sheriff, Mayor, Justice of the Peace, and Deputy Lieutenant of Norfolk. In 1870, along with others, he launched the Eastern Daily Press, a liberal newspaper for East Anglia. A young man's passion for collecting Norwich School paintings led him to donate 20 major works to the Castle Museum in 1898.
