Jelbert Google Home Mini internal chassis for AUX out modification

thingiverse

This is a chassis designed to fit snugly inside a Google Home Mini, replacing its internal speaker assembly entirely. Replacing the internal speaker assembly with this modification may allow you to add an AUX out connection to link up to an external speaker system. To achieve this, simply disconnect the internal speaker and connect a 3.5mm socket in its place. The internal speaker is quite large, making it impossible to fit the 3.5mm socket internally unless the speaker is removed first. The problem lies in the fact that the speaker forms part of the internal chassis, so if it's taken out, you won't be able to screw it back together again. This 3D printed component replaces the internal speaker assembly and allows you to reassemble the Mini without the speaker fitted inside. There is actually a considerable amount of room inside with the speaker removed, making this potentially a great opportunity for more extensive modifications to the mini. You might even be able to squeeze in a Raspberry Pi Zero. Note that the speaker is mono, so an aux out modification will work just fine for news and podcasts but may not be ideal for music. For this reason, I highly recommend using a Google Chromecast Audio in conjunction with your Home Mini in your car.
