Jehan Froissart
myminifactory
The majestic statue stands proudly in marble, honoring Jehan Froissart, the most renowned historian of the Middle Ages. It is situated within a semicircle adorned with intricately carved medallions, also created by Lemaire, showcasing esteemed citizens of Valenciennes: Claudin the Jeune, Henri d'Outreman, Isabelle de Hainaut, Jacques de Lalaing, Baudouin 1er, Henri VII, Philippa de Hainaut, Charles de Lannoy, Simon Le Boucq, and Jehan de Cartigny. Since its installation in 1856 on the street that bears Froissart's name, this monument has stood as a testament to his legacy. However, a replica of the statue now takes the place of the original, which was restored by Robert Brageu in 1995 after years of deterioration.
