Jean Froissart was a medieval French author and court historian who lived from about 1337 until approximately 1405. He wrote several notable works, including the Chronicles and Meliador, a long Arthurian romance. His literary output also included a substantial body of poetry, ranging from short lyrical forms to longer narrative poems. For centuries, Froissart's Chronicles have been widely recognized as a leading representation of the chivalric revival in 14th century England and France. His historical writings are also a valuable resource for understanding the early years of the Hundred Years' War. This sculpture is on public display at Valenciennes.
