Jeep TJ Vent Bracket Cam
thingiverse
I've had numerous vehicle break-ins, which is why I take extra precautions with my Jeep's soft top. I lock the rest of my cars, but thieves targeting Jeeps might find it more convenient to rip off the soft top rather than trying alternative entry methods. Retailers offer Wyze cams at surprisingly low prices - I bought mine for $15 at Microcenter - and they come equipped with free cloud storage and extremely efficient power consumption (5v USB). This piqued my interest, so I wanted to install one in my Jeep. If someone entered the vehicle, it would immediately alert me. To accomplish this, I took precise measurements using Sketchup to create a custom model that fits snugly and securely within the Jeep's vent system. The design is flush against the dashboard and difficult to remove - which is exactly what I want. To install the camera, you need to push it firmly until it clicks into place. A small opening exists between the vent and the vent-shaft where you can easily route the USB cable. For added convenience, I discovered a very affordable USB charger that I wired directly into my fusebox using a fuse splice and a switch. This allows the camera to remain active at all times - but feel free to add a switch if you're concerned about battery drain. So far, the Wyze cam has been running smoothly for three days without any adverse effects on my Jeep's battery life. If you drive daily or every other day, I'm confident that this setup will be more than sufficient.
