Jeep CJ7 Dash Box
thingiverse
I have a 1981 Jeep CJ7 that a previous owner installed a radio in, cutting a hole in the original dash to accommodate a modern radio. However, when I acquired the vehicle, the radio wasn't functioning properly, so I removed it. This left me with an unsightly square gap in my dashboard, which sparked my desire for a solution. Aftermarket radio hole covers are available for CJ7s, but since my dash had been altered, none of these options would fit. Rather than live with the gaping hole, I decided to design and print a custom box that could be inserted into the void, effectively covering the gap while also providing additional storage space in my dashboard. Given the dimensions of the hole, my printer couldn't produce the box as one single piece. To overcome this limitation, I designed the box as two separate halves, which can then be glued together before installation. The files provided include one with tabs and another without, allowing for added support and a secure bond within the box. UPDATE: Following further refinement, I adjusted the side without tabs to better align with the tabbed side, resulting in a more seamless fit. Although it still doesn't match perfectly, this solution meets my requirements and will suffice for my purposes.
