Jeep CJ5 3 Speed Shift Knob Two Color
thingiverse
I created this part for my trusty 1971 Jeep CJ5. I wanted a shift knob that not only looked great but also featured the shift pattern prominently on it, making it easier to navigate while driving. The hole for screwing the knob onto the shifter wasn't threaded as the fine threads wouldn't print well anyway. To ensure a secure fit, I measured the diameter of the shifter's threaded end and found it to be 0.291 inches at the bottom of the threads. I then printed this part with a 0.290 hole and screwed it onto the shifter, which held surprisingly well despite being tight initially. To make it even tighter, I removed the knob and applied a small amount of superglue to the hole. Now, it's extremely secure. For added shine, I also gave it an acetone vapor treatment. The shift pattern is positioned slightly to the left for better visibility from the driver's seat.
