Jeep Cherokee XJ Transmission Shifter Repair Insert (Rev 2)

This is a replacement/upgrade to the failure prone and no longer produced insert in the transmission selector for a 1997-2001 Jeep Cherokee XJ with an automatic transmission. The factory inserts are known for the stem at the top under the handle to snap off making the selector inoperable. Seeing the flaws in the factory design, in my first revision I beefed up all the connecting links and added a rounded transition at the top instead of a sheer transition to hopefully prevent snapping. This new revision takes it further and moves up from a 3/16" stem to 15/64" and drops the rounded transition in favor of a tapered gusset. In testing this is much stronger and is compatible with the factory shift handle and also the Jeep ZJ handle for those who have upgraded (ZJ has a little smaller stem hole in the handle, reasons why i didn't go with 1/4"). As for fitment in earlier models, I don't have a 96 and down XJ to test with but looking at photos I suspect it is similar and may work. I welcome anyone to test it if they have an older XJ and modify as needed or let me know any specs from the factory part and I'm happy to adjust for another model. This has however been tested in a 1997, 1999, and my personal 2000 Jeep Cherokee. Other notes, if its a little sticky in the selector tube, sanding the part with coarse emory paper can help. It will feel a bit snug once its fully installed, however the springs in the gear selector will move it easily.
