The sinking of the Jeanne-Elisabeth is set against a backdrop of extraordinary tensions between France and Great Britain. This simmering conflict will come to a head in a matter of weeks, ultimately leading to the 7-year War, now widely regarded as the first truly global conflict. Led by Marine Jaouen and Andrea Poletto of DRASSM, excavation efforts are underway. A 3D model has been created, showcasing a portion of the ship's rear bulk (stern area) - an initial step in an ambitious attempt to restore the preserved structures. Underwater images were captured by Septentrion Environnement, based in Marseille. Photogrammetric analysis was performed by Pierre Drap, working on behalf of the CNRS. Future surveys will track the wreck annually, with naval architectural elements serving as a testing ground for the GROPLAN project (http://www.groplan.eu).
