Jeanne d'Arc, Beauvais cathedral
sketchfab
Monument to Jeanne d'Arc, 1930. Sculpted by Charles Desvergnes, Marc Jacquin, and Gabriel Chauvin. This work was commissioned by the Bishop of Beauvais, Monsignor Le Senne, and shows him kneeling before Jeanne to ask for pardon from his role in the trial of 1431 played by Bishop Cauchon of Beauvais. On May 30, 1431, Pierre Cauchon, Bishop of Beauvais, president of the inquisitorial court, condemned Jeanne d'Arc to be burned alive on the Old Market Square in Rouen. The Saint was rehabilitated in 1456, her mother having reopened her case. According to the vow of Louis XIII, she is after the Virgin Mary, the second patroness of France.
