This marble bust depicts Jeanette Caroline von Alopaus, the spouse of Russian diplomat Dawid Maximovich Alopaeus. Johann Heinrich von Dannecker (1758-1841), the artist behind this portrait, was a renowned German sculptor. He spent his life primarily in Stuttgart and is widely recognized for his work. His creations showcase the dual influence of his admiration for Antonio Canova and his study of classical antiquity. In 1803, he created a first terracotta model of "Ariadne on the Panther," which he later executed in marble between c.1810 and 1814. This piece is generally regarded as his magnum opus and one of the most significant sculptures of the nineteenth century, currently housed at the Liebieghaus Sculpture Collection in Frankfurt.
